Our regular Sunday worship service is at 9:30 am and generally lasts an hour. Usually, we have a mixture of traditional hymns and contemporary choruses. We celebrate the sacraments of communion and baptism because Jesus Christ partook of these acts and ordered us to do them. They are ways in which we encounter God’s grace in special ways. During worship service, our children begin worship in the sanctuary and then leave to continue worship in another space. There, they hear a lesson, do activities to reinforce the lesson, sing songs, and say prayers which are appropriate to their age level. Children’s Church is for children under 8 years old. The Sacrament of Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. In this partaking of bread and the fruit of the vine, Christ is present with us in ways that we really do not understand and we encounter God’s grace in special ways. We are reminded of God’s great sacrificial love for us when Jesus died on the cross and that this love was poured out on the cross so that we could be forgiven of our sins and be one with God again. We are fed by Christ’s spirit so that we can go forth from partaking of the meal, to share that love with others. The table of Communion is not a United Methodist table, it is Christ’s table; thus, Communion is open to anyone who desires to love Christ and live in peace with their neighbor. The Sacrament of Baptism signifies the claiming of God’s love for us; our initiation into Christ’s body, the Church; our adoption into God’s family; and our ordination into service for Christ’s kingdom. Water symbolizes the cleansing grace of God. The act of pouring water reminds us of the outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit. The response of God’s people reminds us that all baptized Christians are members of the fellowship of God’s Saints. We gather every Sunday to worship God as a community of faith. We listen to the stories of faith, we pray, we sing praises to God, and we experience the sacraments so that we can remember who we are and who God is. We believe that worship is not about performance and it is not about being entertained. It is about us encountering God and entering into a dialogue with God so that we can be transformed. We also believe that worship is a way of life and we strive to worship God by all we say, do and are, meaning that we offer up everything in our lives to God and hope that it is pleasing to him.
