Bible Study
Through the words of the Old Testament and New Testament scriptures, God’s Spirit confronts us, reminding us of who we are and how much God loves us. We see ourselves in the stories contained in the Bible and realize that although the times have changed and the cultural settings are very different people are still the same. We still act out of self-interest, we still refuse to recognize boundaries for living God has established and we still find ourselves with messed up lives and relationships. But, more importantly, we are still people for whom God cares, people with whom God interacts, and people with whom God wants to have a life-long, living relationship. Through studying the Bible in community with God’s Spirit guiding us, we discover God’s will for our lives and how we can live in harmonious relationships with God and each other. It isn’t always easy to understand, but together we do better than trying it on our own.
For adults, we study the Bible during Sunday School (9:45 – 10:45 am) and during short and long-term studies offered during other times during the week. The following is a list of Adult Sunday School classes:
Contemporary Christians, Parlor
Single and married adults, most in their mid-fifties to late sixties
Uses a variety of curriculum and books led by different class members
Cornerstone, Room 410
Single and married adults in their forties and early fifties.
Uses a discussion format guided by the Upper Room Devotional Book.
Fellowship, Room 402
Older adults
Uses the Adult Bible Study with a regular teacher.
Grace Agate, Room 300
Older females
Uses different curriculum and study books with a regular teacher
New Beginnings, Room 401
Single and married adults of all ages.
Studies books of the Bible with a regular leader who encourages active participation
Whatever, Social Hall
Single and married adults in their twenties and thirties
Uses a variety of curriculum
Bible Study for Children and Youth is offered during the Sunday School time (9:45 – 10:45 am) and through special events like Vacation Bible School and Mission Camp.
